We’re hiring!

WE’RE ALWAYS GROWING OUR TEAM

Associate Photographer
(seasonal part-time)

At Vancouver School Portraits, we’ve built a modern, streamlined approach to preschool and daycare photography. Our goal is simple: capture genuine, joyful expressions without forced smiles or awkward poses, while keeping photo day completely stress-free for school staff.

With thousands of smiling kids photographed each year, demand for our fun, organized approach is growing fast. We’re looking for talented associate photographers to join our team and help prove that school photo days can be seamless, efficient, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved.

Are you the organized, kid-friendly photographer we’re looking for?

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Gear

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional photography experience, including at least 3 years working with children aged 1–5 (preschool, daycare, or family photography background).
  • Availability: Consistent weekday availability during peak spring and fall seasons. (Ideal for weekend wedding photographers or golden-hour family shooters looking for extra seasonal weekday income).
  • Mindset: You love shooting and working with kids, but have no desire to run the back end of a school photography business—you want to show up, capture great images, cull, and hand off the RAWs.
  • Reliability: Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, dependable childcare in place, and a track record of punctuality.
  • Camera Equipment:
    • Professional DSLR or mirrorless body
    • 50mm lens (minimum f/1.8)
    • Wide-angle lens in the 24–35mm range (minimum f/3.5)

Your Skillset & Approach

  • Child-Centered Connection: A genuine, gentle approach with young children. You respect their comfort levels, read their moods quickly, and naturally adapt to bring out real smiles.
  • Engaging Energy: You are comfortable being playful, silly, and interactive to help little ones feel completely at ease.
  • Technical Confidence: Solid understanding of basic studio lighting with the ability to troubleshoot on the fly. Camera settings are second nature to you.
  • Efficiency: You stay calm, organized, and focused during fast-paced shoot days.

What WE offer

  • A Collaborative Team Environment: A supportive, organized, and modern working culture.
  • Growth Opportunities: Room to grow as VSP expands across the Lower Mainland.
  • Full Studio Setup Provided: We supply all lighting setups, backdrops, and specialized equipment (you bring your camera body and lenses).
  • Paid Training: $35/hour during shadowing and training sessions.
  • Flat Daily Rate (TBD): Once trained and shooting solo, covering:
    • Travel time and logistics within the Lower Mainland
    • Equipment setup and teardown
    • On-site photography (typically 20–30 students/day; scheduling varies from single-day visits to 2–3 consecutive days per school with advance notice)
    • Image selection and culling (12–20 delivered RAW files per child)
  • Contract Structure: Independent contractor position (responsible for your own tax withholdings).

Ready to Apply?

If you meet these qualifications and are ready to join our seasonal team, we’d love to review your application! Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to set up an in-person meeting or video call.
